While I'm staying at home, the massive San Diego Comic Convention (SDCC) is underway this week with Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures revealing the first glimpses of Guillermo Del Toro's upcoming PACIFIC RIM film (which I had the pleasure of being part of the core concept team on)!

The first teaser poster (by Hugo Martin) and a couple of the actual suit props are on display in the convention, but the big day of surprises will be on Saturday (July 14) during the PACIFIC RIM panel with Guillermo and some of the films stars~ Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Ron Perlman! If you're at the show, be sure to check it out at Hall H (2:30pm)!

The MARQUIS: INFERNO 2nd printing sells out!

Dark Horse Comics wonderful collected edition of THE MARQUIS: INFERNO has sold out of it's second edition! We're looking into options for a third printing and hope to have it back in print soon~ check back for updates!

Also I've had people noticing that the upcoming "MARQUIS and the MIDWIFE" graphic novel has been listed on a few places as coming out this month, unfortunately that's a mistake (not sure how those dates were posted). I'm currently still working on the content and there's been no solicitations for the new book yet, but you can see some behind the scenes progress to the series over at the Marquis blog!

Speaking of Humanoids, they've also started reprinting THE ZOMBIES THAT ATE THE WORLD in hardcover english editions! Just released is the second book, "The Eleventh Commandment" written by Jerry Frissen and drawn by myself (with Charlie Kirchoff on colors)~ the new collection continues the dark comedy adventures of Karl, Freddy and Maggie looking for a single zombie in a world where the dead have come back to life and want to move back in with the living! Also includes a cover gallery, sketchbook section and introduction by Joe Dante!

The PhotoTaker Returns!

Slowly getting the full website up and running, but in the meantime I'll try to catch up on some of the updates that slipped by. A couple months back I was surprised to see my old story "The PhotoTaker" (based on a Metal Hurlant cover by the amazing Jacques Tardi) nominated for a 2012 Eisner award under "Best Short Story"~ as flattering as it was, I was confused how something I did back in 2002 was even eligible. So after I posted online asking if it was a mistake, the Eisner committee realized the screw-up and removed it from voting (which was definitely fine with me since there were tons of other comics actually drawn last year that should have been in the running).

But it did remind me that Humanoides has started reprinting some of the earlier work I did for them in English, and you can find "The PhotoTaker" in the new Metal Hurlant Vol. 2 collection!

Home from the PACIFIC RIM!

Catching up on the website news after returning home from 11 months away working as part of Guillermo del Toro's core concept team on the upcoming PACIFIC RIM film! It was an amazing experience to be there from early concept and get to see it take shape into filming, and an honor to work alongside an incredible group of inspiring concept artists and friends. The film's not out until 2013, so there's not much I'm allowed to say or post for now, but will update more on it when I can.

The third volume of Dark Horse Comics BPRD: PLAGUE OF FROGS hardcover reprints is out now, and collects THE UNIVERSAL MACHINE, GARDEN OF SOULS, and KILLING GROUND. Written by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi with art by myself and Dave Stewart on colors~ the volume also reprints the original sketchbook material. Features the first appearance of Daryl the Wendigo, Panya the mummy and the origin story of Capt. Daimio!
